Exterior light fixtures do not require gfci protection.
Wiring porch light fixture.
Low voltage lighting systems must be listed by an approved testing agency as an entire system or assembled from individual components that are listed.
Light fixtures with more than one lamp may have a pair of black and white wires for each lamp.
Electrical wiring at the light fixture is typically made by connecting together the wires of the same color which are commonly black white and the bare ground wire or green ground wire.
However it s likely that the light fixture was mounted in the middle of a stud cavity which makes mounting a box that can support the weight of the fixture more difficult.
Some wiring may vary however this is the most common wiring scenario for a 120 volt light fixture.
Wire the switch install a bulb and test.
Support the fixture with a wire coat hanger.
Splice the white lead to white wire and black to black.
Fold the wires into the box and install the fixture onto the mounting bolts.
Make sure the power source is turned off.
Several types of remodeling boxes can do the job but we recommend a 2 x 3 in metal remodeling box that s 2 1 2 in deep for fixtures up to about 6 lbs.
